Brand Identity Process
Below is an outline of the process you should take to develop multiple distinctly different design concepts for the Sheila Y. Oliver Center for Politic and Race in America.
1. REVIEW & CREATE DESIGN PRINCIPLES
– The idea of “Design Principles” comes from the IDEO Design Kit, so I am including a handout for your reference here: IDEO_DesignPrinciples (IDEO is a famous design and innovation company https://www.ideo.com/.)
– In our Mural we started an area for this concept of “Design Principles.” Draw from this as well as language in our “Brand Narrative” work. (Although not finalized, there’s a lot to draw from there.)
– Again, these are conceptual and visual ideas that can help you as you move into the sketching process.
2. GET INSPIRED
– See this post for links to many places you can look at logomarks and logotypes for inspiration.

3. CONDUCT VISUAL RESEARCH
– Conduct visual research relating to the Center, our Brand Narrative, ongoing visual research, etc…
– As you collect visual research please add to our Mural to share with the whole team
4. SKETCH
– Sketch widely!
– Conduct a thorough sketch process and create approximately 10-20 concept sketches.
– Concept sketches are rough, usually done in pencil/pen to present an overall concept.
– Once we have reviewed all of these on Tuesday, we will choose those that we feel have the most promise and continue to develop them.
