Final Narrative Critique \u2013 Presentation Guide<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, November 19th and Monday, November 24th you will present the completed design of your Narrative Project, both mediums. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These two class sessions are your final opportunity<\/strong> to receive concentrated feedback on the design of your Narrative Project before we shift focus to Capstone research and ideation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You must be present and participate on both critique days.
Unexcused absences (without documented medical reason) receive a 1 \u2013 \u201cunacceptable\u201d<\/strong> in your evaluation.
We will be providing an Evaluation \/ Grade for this critique.

Groups are as follows (flipping those who went first when we had a critique over a weekend the first time):

Group 1 (11\/19)<\/strong>: Matt, Theo, Anthony, Helen, Ek ,Kamara, Estrelita, Melanie, Liam, Daniela, Hajra,

Group 2 (11\/24)<\/strong>: Giselle, Kevyncia, Jeff, Miuni, Emily, Narielles, Nakayla, David, Maegan, Jourdy, Afnan, Yumna, Miranda<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where to Find Examples + Upload Work<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

+ See last year\u2019s Final Narrative Critique examples<\/a><\/strong>
+ Upload your Final Crit Deliverables here<\/a><\/strong>
Upload before the start of class<\/strong> on your assigned day.
Use naming convention: FirstInitialLast_NarrativeFinalCritique<\/strong>
(Example: JBernstein_NarrativeFinalCritique.pdf<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Important Note About Prototypes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You are not expected<\/strong> to present:
+ fully functioning interactive prototypes
+ printed\/bound full-color publications
+ final 3D-printed objects
These are due for the Cross-Media Exam on Dec 17 (3\u20136 pm).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

However:<\/strong>
If one of your mediums is print-based, object-based, or installation-based<\/em>, you must<\/strong> bring actual-sized, physical samples<\/strong> (dummy, prototype, paper mockup, etc.) so we can review scale, typography, and physical experience. These can be printed in black-and-white, if preferred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Critique Criteria<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Each medium must be:
+ A distinct interpretation<\/strong> of your story
+ Designed using the affordances<\/strong> of that medium
+ Intentional in audience, goal, and form
+ Supported by any required elements\u2014bibliography, image credits, sourced content, colophon, etc.

Be ready to explain why the medium matters<\/strong> to your concept and how its affordances shape the meaning of your story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Presentation Format<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

All work will be presented:
+ On-screen as high-res PDFs<\/strong>
+ Using mockups<\/strong> as appropriate (devices, environments, objects)
+ With physical samples<\/strong> for print\/object\/installation mediums
(No printing\/cutting\/binding once class begins.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Uploading + Presenting<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

+ Upload a single PDF<\/strong> for your presentation. (See link at top of this post.)
+ Additional files (videos, publication spreads, etc.) should also go in the folder.
+ Work must be ready at the start of class<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. PDF Presentation Outline<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Page 1:<\/strong> Title page (Project Title, Your Name, Professors\u2019 Names, Fall 2025)
Page 2:<\/strong> Refined Narrative Abstract
Include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

+ Description of both mediums
+ Audience + goal for each
+ How you use affordances<\/strong> of each medium as part of your design solution<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pages 3\u2013XX:<\/strong> Medium 1 + Medium 2
Include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

+ Completed designs
+ Mockups showing intended production or site (if applicable)
+ Any additional media (video, audio, interaction frames, spreads, flat files)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mockup resources:<\/strong> free decent mockups (are.na)<\/a> free mockup zone<\/a>, graphic pear<\/a>, mockup tree<\/a>, mockup world<\/a>, pexels<\/a>, adobe stock<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Guidelines by Medium<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

+ All mediums share the same expectation: full-color, fully designed solutions that demonstrate concept, visual language, and how the medium itself structures the story.<\/em>
+ In every category, be ready to briefly explain: medium affordances \u2192 why they matter \u2192 audience \u2192 project goals.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A. Websites \/ Apps \/ Interactive Experience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Present:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

+ Static screens showing the full design
+ \u201cBefore\/after\u201d screens to demonstrate interaction, motion, sound
+ Designs placed in a clean device mockup<\/strong> (no busy scenes)
+ Screens displayed large enough to see details
+ File export included in your PDF<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No working prototypes required<\/strong>, but interaction must be shown clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

B. Time-Based Media (Video \/ Animation \/ Motion + Sound)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Present:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

+ A full-motion, full-color, audio-integrated video file
(either separate from PDF or linked to Vimeo\/YouTube)
+ Key stills or sequences may also appear in the PDF if needed<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C. Publications (Books, Editorials, Zines, Printed Matter)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Present:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

+ Full PDF exported as spreads<\/strong>
(Include a thin gutter line to ensure correct composition on-screen)
+ Cover as a separate PDF<\/strong>
+ A 100% scale black-and-white dummy<\/strong> (trimmed and taped spreads)
+ Any paper samples or binding materials you plan to use<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are NOT expected to bring final full-color or final binding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D. Poster Series (2\u20133 Posters)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Present:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

+ Full-color PDFs of each poster
+ One slide showing the series together
+ Individual slides for each poster
+ A 100% scale black-and-white print<\/strong> of each poster (tiled + taped is fine)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

E. Objects or Artifacts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Present:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

+ Digital mockups showing intended production and siting
+ Any 3D test sketches
+ A 100% scale paper mockup<\/strong> of the object
+ Clear demonstration of scale, form, and typography<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No final 3D print required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

F. Installation \/ Environmental Design<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Present:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

+ Flat digital design
+ Mockup showing siting and scale
+ A 100% scale printed section<\/strong> (tiled + taped is fine) to review typography and visibility<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This critique is your last full review before Capstone.
