This is an important milestone and an opportunity to receive feedback on your design solutions as you continue to develop and refine your project.

Please note that we have only a few more weeks dedicated solely to your Narrative project. Following the Narrative Project Final Critique on November 18, we will shift our focus to Capstone ideation. However, you will continue to develop and refine your Narrative project, with all final production and implementation due at the Final Exam. (See Class Schedule for more details.)

It is important that you carefully read and follow the presentation directions and criteria below. Your preparation and adherence to these requirements will also be considered in your evaluation. If you have any questions, please let us know.

In addition, you are required to be present and participate in all critiques, on both days, if it gets extended. This is an important part of your educational experience and reflects the professional conduct expected of you as a designer and member of our studio community.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:
Each of your Narrative mediums should communicate the same story, while taking advantage of the unique affordances and possibilities of each medium. Be prepared to explain your design decisions and the rationale behind your approach.

Your work for Critique #2 should reflect the feedback you received at Midterm and the current stage of development of your design concepts. If your design solutions were moving in a strong direction, you should focus on refining and extending those solutions through additional spreads, screens, sequences, or other appropriate applications.

If your feedback indicated that further conceptual or formal exploration was needed, that should be your priority. Rather than moving ahead with additional production, concentrate on investigating alternative approaches, experimenting with original imagery and visual language, and refining your design solutions. The goal is to demonstrate meaningful progress in your design development, not simply an increase in the amount of work produced.

Although this presentation will not receive a separate grade, the work you present at this stage will be evaluated and considered when determining your final semester grade for the course.

1. PRESENTATION FORMAT
Begin your presentation with your Refined Narrative Abstract, reflecting the development of your concept and any changes or refinements made since the Midterm Critique. Your abstract should clearly articulate your project goals, target audience(s), and how you are utilizing the unique affordances of each of your chosen mediums to communicate your Narrative.

All work will be projected on-screen for presentation, along with physical samples for print/artifact-based mediums as described below. Physical prints, spreads, and prototypes must be ready to present at the start of class.

Important: Spell-check all your work! Typos diminish the quality of your design work and demonstrate a lack of attention to detail. This is easily avoided by making it a habit to spell-check all your designs, as well as your Presentation PDF, before finalizing your work.

Please organize your presentation according to the following structure:

Page 1: Cover — Project title and your name, etc.

Page 2: Refined Narrative Abstract

Pages 3 onward: Medium 1 — Design explorations, development, and/or refined solutions

Following pages: Medium 2 — Design explorations, development, and/or refined solutions

Your presentation should be concise and focused. Include only the work necessary to demonstrate meaningful progress in each medium, based on the feedback you received at Midterm. There is no need to fill a predetermined number of slides. Again, the emphasis will be on what you show vs. verbal descriptions which will be kept to a minimum.

2. NAMING CONVENTION
This is the naming convention to be used for your Presentation:
FLast_Critique#2.pdf (Using Rufi’s name as an example: RMoranchel_Critique#2.pdf)

3. UPLOADING YOUR WORK
All work needs to be uploaded into the Narrative Critique #2 Folder on our shared Google Drive in PDF format before the start of class. This will allow us to be as efficient as possible during the critique and we have as much time as possible to provide feedback.

4. PRESENTING YOUR MEDIUMS
All work presented must be full-color, fully designed solutions that demonstrate your design concept and visual language (color palette, imagery, typography, etc.), and how you are utilizing the unique affordances of each medium to communicate your Narrative.

All work must be included in your Presentation PDF and uploaded to our shared Google Drive before the start of class. Additional physical presentation requirements are outlined below for each medium.

Websites / Apps / Interactive Experiences

Present your design concept through a Site Map + Home/Landing Page + a minimum of 3 Additional Web Pages/Screens as digital comps/designs.

Working prototypes are not required at this stage. However, your presentation must demonstrate how users will navigate and interact with your experience, including a clearly defined navigation system and before/after states or sequences that communicate interactivity, animation, sound, or other interactive features where applicable.

Time-based Media

Present your design concept through a Storyboard + a minimum of 4 Key Frames/Screens of your time-based piece. *Depending on the stage of development of your work and the feedback you received at Midterm, these should demonstrate either further design exploration and refinement or the continued development of your design solutions.

Your Storyboard should communicate the narrative arc and sequence of your piece, while your Key Frames demonstrate the development of your visual language and design direction.

Motion tests created in After Effects are a bonus, but not required until next week.

Publications (Books / Editorials / Zines, etc.)

Present your design concept through a minimum of 3 Spreads.
