Narrative Project: Semi-Final Critique
On Monday, November 13th each of you will present the completed design for your Narrative Project, both mediums. (Combined classes meeting in room 427.) This is the final opportunity for you to receive concentrated feedback on your Narrative Projects before we pivot our focus to Capstone preparation.
It is important that you carefully read and follow the presentation directions and criteria below. If you have any questions, please let us know.
*In addition, you are required to be present and participate in all critiques, on both days. This is an important part of your educational experience and professional conduct as a designer and member of our studio community. Absence without a documented medical condition will result in a score of 1 (“unacceptable”) on your evaluation. We will not allow students to present on the second day merely because of absence.
CRITIQUE CRITERIA:
Each Medium you create should be a distinctly different interpretation / design solution (different visual language, imagery, typography, etc.) of your story that utilizes the unique affordances of each medium.
Be prepared to explain your rationale for these choices.
1. PRESENTATION FORMAT
All work will be projected on-screen for presentation along with physical samples for print/artifact-based mediums as described below. Additionally, present physical prints/spreads/prototypes as appropriate for your mediums. (See the below outline for each medium.) All presentation materials need to be ready at the start of class time. (No printing, cutting, etc.)
2. UPLOADING YOUR WORK
All work needs to be uploaded into your Folder on our shared Google Drive in PDF format. This will allow us to be as efficient as possible during the critique and we have as much time as possible to provide feedback. (One log-in to our Google Drive at the start of class, not multiple log-ins throughout.) Thanks!

3. PRESENTING YOUR MEDIUMS
Websites / Apps / Interactive Experiences
Present the completed design of your website, app, or interactive experience. Fully completed design work is more important than a working prototype. However, you still need to provide a way to demonstrate the interactivity through multiple screens( i.e. “before” and after,” etc.), as we will be critiquing the interactivity/interactive design.
Designs must be full-color / fully-designed solutions that demonstrate your design concept, visual language (color palette, imagery, typographic system, etc.), navigation, and interactivity for this visual interpretation of your story and use of the medium.
*All designs saved-out as a PDF and uploaded to our shared Google Drive for presentation before the start of class time.
Time-based Media
Present an .MP4 video file exported from AfterEffects. Be prepared to play your video work and share your design concept through a Storyboard.
Designs must be full-color / fully-designed solutions that demonstrate your design concept, and visual language (color palette, imagery, typographic system, etc.) for this visual interpretation of your story and use of the medium. The narrative arc of your time-based piece will be presented through your Storyboard.
*All designs saved as a PDF and uploaded to our shared Google Drive for presentation before the start of class time.
Publications (Books / Editorials / Zines etc.)
Present your publication saved as spreads in a PDF format. Place a thin line in the “gutter” of each Spread before you export so that the composition is presented accurately on-screen.
Designs must be full-color / fully-designed solutions that demonstrate your design concept, and visual language (color palette, imagery, typographic system, etc.) for this visual interpretation of your story and use of the medium. *In addition, bring your publication printed at %100, trimmed, and taped together into a spread so that we can look at the scale of typography, etc. (We not expect final binding at this point, but bring any relevant materials you plan to use, such as paper stock, etc.)
*All designs saved as a PDF and uploaded to our shared Google Drive for presentation before the start of class time.
