Narrative Project: Critique 2

October 21 2024, 0 Comments

On Wednesday, November 5th, each of you will present your Narrative Project progress for class critique (separate sections). This is an important project milestone presentation to help you push your project forward and receive feedback on your design solutions.

Please note that there are only 4 more weeks to focus solely on your Narrative project, including next week. After November 19th’s Narrative Project Final Critique, we will be focusing on your Capstone ideation, although you will be continuing to develop/refine your Narrative project. (See Class Schedule for more details.)

It is important that you carefully read and follow the presentation directions and criteria below. (This will also be a factor in your evaluation.) If you have any questions, please let us know.

*In addition, you are required to be present and participate in all critiques, on both days. This is an important part of your educational experience, and professional conduct as a designer and member of our studio community.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:
Each of your Narratives tell the same story, with an emphasis on utilizing the unique affordances of each of your mediums. Be prepared to explain your rationale for these choices. Your work will be evaluated based the progress demonstrated since the Midterm Critique, and how well you have followed the instructions outlined below.

*Although this presentation will not be graded, the work you present at this stage will be evaluated and referenced while evaluating your final semester grade for this course.

1. PRESENTATION FORMAT
All work will be projected on-screen for presentation along with physical samples for print/artifact-based mediums as described below. Physical prints/spreads/prototypes must be ready to present at the start of class time. *Spell-check your work! You all present a lot of work with typo’s, which diminishes your work and does not demonstrate attention to detail. This can easily be avoided by getting in the habit of always running a spell-check on your designs/mediums, as well as your Presentation PDF before finalizing.

2. NAMING CONVENTION
This is the naming convention to be used for your Presentation:
FLast_Critique#2.pdf (Using Rufi’s name as an example: RMoranchel_Critique#2.pdf)

3. UPLOADING YOUR WORK
All work needs to be uploaded into the Narrative Critique #2 Folder on our shared Google Drive in PDF format before the start of class. This will allow us to be as efficient as possible during the critique and we have as much time as possible to provide feedback.

4. PRESENTING YOUR MEDIUMS

Websites / Apps / Interactive Experiences
Present your design concept through a Site Map + the Home/Landing Page + a minimum of 3 Additional Web Pages/Screens as digital comps/designs.

Designs must be full-color / fully-designed solutions that demonstrate your design concept, visual language (color palette, imagery, typographic system, etc.), navigation and interactivity for this visual interpretation of your story and use of the medium. You do not need to show your comps as working prototypes/XD, etc. but show “before” and “after” screens for each of the three Pages that demonstrate the interactivity and/or animation, use of sound, etc.

*All designs saved-out as a PDF and uploaded to our shared Google drive for presentation before the start of class time.

Time-based Media
Present your design concept through a Storyboard + a minimum of 4 Key Frames/Screens of your time-based piece. (Motion tests created in AfterEffects a bonus, but not required until next week.)

Designs must be full-color / fully-designed solutions that demonstrate your design concept, visual language (color palette, imagery, typographic system, etc.) for this visual interpretation of your story and use of the medium. The narrative arc of your time-based piece will be presented through your Storyboard.

*All designs saved-out as a PDF and uploaded to our shared Google drive for presentation before the start of class time.

Publications (Books / Editorials / Zines etc.)
Present your design concept through a minimum of 3 Spreads saved out as a PDF. Place a thin line in the “gutter” of each Spread before you export so that the composition is presented accurately on-screen.

Designs must be full-color / fully-designed solutions that demonstrate your design concept, visual language (color palette, imagery, typographic system, etc.) for this visual interpretation of your story and use of the medium. *In addition, bring a minimum of one Spread printed out at 100% in black-and-white, trimmed and taped together into a spread so that we can look at scale of typography, etc.)

*All designs saved-out as a PDF and uploaded to our shared Google drive for presentation before the start of class time.
